Truly personalised nutrition!

Each and every one of us is unique.  Variations in our genome (DNA) contribute to our individuality and can have significant impacts on our life and health.  Whilst your genetic code is fixed, gene expression (activity) can be adjusted by diet and lifestyle.

By analysing our genetic make-up we can  better understand how our DNA may be contributing to ill health and identify potential future health risks.  So what? you may ask.  Well this is the really exciting bit....We can then put in place evidence based nutrition and lifestyle change to optimise our function and mitigate those risks.

Lifecode Gx specialist nutrigenomic testing is only available through trained practitioners.  There are a range of reports available, covering different aspects of health.

I offer two standard packages, one focussing on hormonal health and one on mental health (see below).  Bespoke packages are also available as an add-on to my nutritional therapy 1:1 foundation package.  For more information on this contact me via email or book a free discovery call.

The Details

Process

Upon purchase you will be sent a  DNA kit to collect and return your sample.  You'll also receive a link to a health questionnaire which will help me tailor your consultation and ensure you get the most out of the process.

Once the lab has received your sample you will be contacted to book your appointment.  Please allow 4 weeks from the lab receiving your sample for results.

Collection of DNA

A Lifecode Gx DNA test kit will be posted to you.  Your DNA will be extracted from a sample of cheek cells.  It only takes a minute to collect the cells using the swab provided.  Then place the swab in the test tube with the stabilising table, complete and sign the consent form and place everything in the return packaging provided.

Practitioner support session

A 45-60 minute Zoom call with me to talk through your results and recommend nutrition and lifestyle interventions.  Recommendations will be summarised in writing following the appointment.

Reports

Nutrition Core report

This test analyses how gene variants can affect food tolerance (and intolerance), appetite control and blood sugar balance, vitamin and mineral needs, detoxification ability, and susceptibility to inflammation and infection and infection.

Hormones Report:

The Hormones test analyses genes involved in the regulation, synthesis, signalling, transport and metabolism of corticosteroids and sex steroids hormones. It looks at how gene variants affect hormones and details the nutrients and environmental factors that can influence and improve their balance.

The Hormones report is recommended for women with hormone imbalance symptoms such as:

  • Infertility, low libido and sex drive, acne, excess facial hair, PCOS, blood clots, mood swings, depression, substance misuse, poor memory, weight gain.
  • It can also be really helpful when considering HRT

Nervous System Report:

This test analyses gene variants that impact serotonin (contentment) and melatonin (sleep), dopamine (motivation), noradrenaline and adrenaline (fight or flight); glutamate (the major excitatory neurotransmitter); GABA (the major inhibitory neurotransmitter) which is critical for relaxation; and endoCannabinoids (AEA/ anandamide) which regulate other neurotransmitters. The report provides detailed recommendations for nutritional support to alleviate symptoms and to optimise mental health.

Symptoms of neurotransmitter imbalance can include:

  • Mood imbalances, depression, mania, attention deficit and obsessive compulsive disorders, addictive behaviours, motor control disruption, anger, aggression and restlessness.

Bespoke Package

If you're interested in exploring your DNA in relation to some other aspect of your health or family history I can put together a bespoke package tailored to your requirements.

Lifecode Gx offer a range of reports in addition to those mentioned above, including:

  • Metabolics:  Provides insight into how our genes contribute to our metabolic health, energy regulation, longevity and healthspan.

  • Methylation:  The process of methylation is involved in almost every metabolic process in the body. Imbalances in methylation can contribute to chronic health conditions

  • Histamine Intolerance:  Histamine has many functions:  in the nervous system, digestive process and immune system.  Consequently histamine intolerance can result in symptoms such as skin irritation or breathing difficulties (mimicking an allergic reaction), digestive problems, headaches, insomnia and anxiety.

  • Detoxification:  Poor detoxification (the process of removing toxic substances from the body) can underpin symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, allergies, skin disorders, weight gain, bloating, acid reflux and heartburn, excessive sweating, chronic infections, subfertility, low libido, poor mental function and low stress tolerance.

  • Thyroid Balance:  Thyroid hormones control the metabolism of almost every cell in the body.  Insufficient or excess thyroid hormones can result in a multitude of symptoms. Hypothyroidism (under activity) can cause weight gain, fatigue, low libido, cold intolerance, dry skin, constipation and depression. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism (over activity) include anxiety, heat intolerance, heart palpitations, insomnia and weight loss. The Thyroid Balance report analyses the genes involved in the thyroid hormone lifecycle.
